Here we go kids! Normally people get excited for things like Metal Injection’s “Top Lamb Of God and Megadeath articles of the Year” or Metal Hammer’s “That Ten Times we did a story about Lamb of God” or other yearly awards from suppose metal sites that for some reason only talk about Lamb of God. No, we don’t do that here (actually, we’re not even fans of Lamb of God, never have been). We do our yearly ten best by listening to a variety of awesome stuff all year long. The ten WE pick have to be a lady in the streets but a freak in the sheets. Meaning, how do we work out to it, and how does it sound outside of the gym. Basically. Because we’re a fitness and metal blog. BUT THE BEST OF IT’S KIND RIGHT? Fucking right.

So here, without further delay, the ten absolute best albums of the Metal Made Fitness year, in order!

10) Thy Art Is Murder – Holy War
The Australian mayhem machine returns with a blunt political statement wrapped up in a ruthless, technical spree of metal that is easily the best release of their careers.

9) The Iron Son – Enemy
The imfamous metal vo-kill stylings of Brandan Scheippati return in this 28 minute asskicking with the combined efforts of Mick Kenney. A to-the-point beatdown!

8) Otargos – Xeno Kaos
Out of nowhere we found this release, and holy shit we’re glad we did. Extreme metal with deep French metal influence, the razor slashes on this album are nothing short of brutal.

7) Dragged Into Sunlight & Gnaw Their Tongues – NV
Disturbing, dark and vile. This powernoise grind crust team of two well known entities in the underground take your brain to hellish places. Impossible to ignore the sonic assault of this one.

6) Blacklisted – When People Grow, People Go
Their most mature release to date, Blacklisted blast through passages of manic hardcore drops, tempo shifts and calmer indie rock influence. An intelligent hardcore record if we ever heard one.

5) Fit For An Autopsy – Absolute Hope, Absolute Hell
If metal was an animal, this record would be the most vengeful shark in the sea. Weaving through complex themes and arrangements, right back into an old fashion bat to the skull. Absolute hope, absolute hell. Absolutely heavy. And one of the best videos of the year as well.

Slam metal never sounded so diverse. A plethora of crazy and deranged ideas for a listener needing more than non-stop blast beats and screaming. This is brain food for the gore metal set. Shocked it’s up this high on the list? It’s that fucking good.

3) Killing Joke – Pylon
Nothing beats a classic. Killing Joke are now the gold standard of getting better with age. Pylon is a new age industrial rock record rooted in punk ethics, prepping the world for the riots to come.

2) Sulpher Aeon – Gateway to the Antisphere
This will be a modern classic for years to come. Undeniable talent, more depth than an ocean, and songwriting that metal does not see often. Sulpher Aeon will be legends if they aren’t already. A near flawles extreme metal record.

1) Black Tongue – The Unconquerable Dark
One of the heaviest records ever made. A slow, brutal and crushing stomp. Waiting for a drop, to be put into the ground by the weight. Black Tongue are now the mold that has been broken for anything in modern “core” music. And the creepiest video of the year as well…
